So, lately, I’ve been doing some research for the website and WIP.
I’ve been thinking of redoing the website, giving it a new look. Not that I don’t like the purple or the current look, but every website needs to be revamped occasionally and I think it’s time for a new look. I still have plenty of things to look into and decide before I start the work on that project. Before I start, I’ll have to do some prep to make the changeover as fast as possible. I don’t expect it to go without a hitch, but I’d like to keep the errors and downtime to a minimum.
For writing, if anyone looked at that side of my search history, they might think I’m planning a foodie trip to New Orleans and researching places to stay in the future and maybe a career in event planning. But no, it’s all research for a book and for characters within a book. The hotels were actually for models for a large pack house and the food… Well, it’s New Orleans and the heroine wants to try beignets with the heroes and share the clean-up duties. Also, while eating or cooking, the characters have a great opportunity to learn about each other and their pasts. It’s an opportunity for me to deepen the characters without telling too much.

And this is the result of a little of that research.
*By the way, Cameron, mentioned in this short excerpt is not one of the heroes.*
Ariana reached out and poured herself some juice. “So what’s in that bowl with the white stuff?”
“That is grits and grillades, pure Cajun comfort food. Pork tenderloin medallions in gravy and perfectly seasoned, creamy grits. You’ll sometimes see this served at lunch or brunch. Try some. I think you’ll like it.” Raff dipped the spoon into the grits.
She picked up her plate and allowed him to spoon some on. “I’m good with just about anything pork, but bacon is definitely a weakness of mine. Just so you know.”
She put pancakes and eggs on her plate before settling back to prepare her pancakes. With a knife, she spread butter between the pancakes and then poured on the syrup.
“You’ll love the food. Our cook is fabulous. I believe Curtis and Travis have asked to have beignets sent up later so that you can try them with us.” Raff forked up some the eggs he’d taken.
Ariana dipped her spoon in the grits and grillade. She took a small bite. Creamy, with a hint of herbs, the grits were delightful and the gravy from the pork was delicious.
“You’re right. This is mouth-watering and I wouldn’t mind just having this.” She scooped up another bite. This time with a small bite of pork in it.
“So has anyone kept track of the man who hit you?” Cameron leaned forward. A piece of pancake dangled from his fork.
