I’d like to welcome Pippa Jay to the blog today! She’s revealing the cover to her latest book, Gethyon.
Read on to get a taste of her latest Science fiction adventure.

Abandoned. Hunted. Out of control.

Gethyon Rees had always felt at odds with the universe, and hoped for an escape among the stars. But discovering he has the ability to cross time and space with just a thought brings more problems than it solves: a deadly bounty hunter who can follow him anywhere, the unwelcome return of Tarquin Secker—the mother who abandoned him—and an ancient darkness that seeks him and all those with his talents.

When an unforgivable act sets him on the run, it’ll take more than his unearthly powers to save his skin and the lives of those he cares about. It’ll take a sacrifice he never expected to have to make.

A science fiction adventure novel previously published by BURST (Champagne Books), and part of the Travellers Universe. A 2014 SFR Galaxy Award Winner for Most Awesome Psychic Talent and a 2015 EPIC eBook Awards finalist in the Science Fiction category. Also now includes the SF short story The Bones of the Sea.

“With colorful worlds full of nuance and dimension, characters that walk off the page, and themes that anyone who has been either parent or child can relate to.” J.C. Cassels, author of The Black Wing Chronicles series

“This fast-paced, gripping ride zips through time and space, love and loss, rebellion and acceptance.” Anna McLain, SFR Galaxy Award judge

Excerpt

As they topped the cliffs above the beach, Callon squealed, and Gethyon veered sharply from the boulders blocking their path. His fingers trembled in the steering gear, and the bike responded by swerving from side to side, his blurred vision bringing them too close to the cliff edge. He clicked on the automatics to steady their flight, and the bike settled.

Moonlight gave him a path to follow, but he switched on the night guidance systems anyway. Bright lines of color covered the central panel, projecting a screen before his eyes. Holographic images overlaid reality and highlighted the safe path ahead, but the lines shifted and broke. Gethyon blinked and shook his head, trying to clear it. How many times had Dephon hit him? Did he have a concussion? Every movement sent pain lancing through his skull, and he struggled to keep his focus. Could he make it home?

The bike jolted hard beneath them as though it had struck something. Callon screamed as Gethyon fought to right the craft, but another impact set them careering perilously close to the cliff edge.

He yanked the trilobyke toward safety, and straight into a collision with another modified bike. Both engines screamed as his opponent kept his bike abreast of Gethyon’s, the rider leaning hard into them. Gethyon drove his fingers deep into his controls to jerk his bike forward with a burst of acceleration, and the attacking craft dropped back. With a swift glance over his shoulder, he turned right, away from the cliffs, darting across the path of the slower craft as they left it behind.

A shape zoomed into view to his left, and he spared it a quick glance. Tyos, his augmented glider faster than Gethyon’s but lighter in frame, closed in on them and hovered inches from the rear vanes. To his right, another heavier trilobyke moved in alongside and nudged them.

“Land!” the rider of the trilobyke yelled at him.

Gethyon stared at him, and recognized the face under the clear visor even if he couldn’t put a name to it: another of Dephon’s companions. Did they really think he would do it? Or that they could force him to obey? They’d more likely kill him and Callon in the process. Were they insane, or just too drunk on alcohol and adrenaline to consider the consequences?

As if in answer, the heavier bike smashed against them, pushing them back toward the precipice. He forced his craft steady, but Tyos rammed into the rear vanes and they careened toward the cliff. Red lights pulsed from the console and a piercing alarm rose, drowning even Callon’s shrieks. He yanked back on the grips to brake, to at least slow their mad plunge, but the collision had sheared off a braking vane and they plummeted over the edge.

Bio:

After spending twelve years working as an Analytical Chemist in a Metals and Minerals laboratory, Pippa Jay is now a stay-at-home mum who writes scifi and the supernatural. Somewhere along the way a touch of romance crept into her work and refused to leave. In between torturing her plethora of characters, she spends the odd free moment playing guitar very badly, punishing herself with freestyle street dance, and studying the Dark Side of the Force. Although happily settled in the historical town of Colchester in the UK with her husband of 22 years and three little monsters, she continues to roam the rest of the Universe in her head.

Pippa Jay is a dedicated member of the Science Fiction Romance Brigade, and Broad Universe, blogging at Spacefreighters Lounge, Adventures in Scifi, and Romancing the Genres. Her works include YA and adult stories crossing a multitude of subgenres from scifi to the paranormal, often with romance, and she’s one of eight authors included in a science fiction romance anthology—Tales from the SFR Brigade. She’s also a double SFR Galaxy Award winner, been a finalist in the Heart of Denver RWA Aspen Gold Contest (3rd place), the 2015 EPIC eBook awards, the 2015 RWA LERA Rebecca (2nd place), and the GCC RWA Silken Sands Star Awards (2nd place).
