Sweating with Sven

This is Sven, the personal trainer for 70 days of sweat. Sven sure is sweating. And I’m doing pretty good too. I did the math for 80k I have to write around 1143 words per day. It’s more than doable. I’m still a little nervous about it. Lately, I’ve been having a few problems writing as much as I used to. Couldn’t figure out why. That’s why I decided to do this challenge. To get my writing back on track.

Now I started off writingPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket and found myself going back over what I’d just written trying to get every word right. After doing that, it occured to me —I’m never going to make 80k if I keep rewriting. Did you hear the forehead smack?

It took trying to get a certain wordcount done in a day to make me see it and that’s why I’m blushing. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketI don’t know why I didn’t see it before. My internal editor has been stomping word count into smithereens. I don’t even want to imagine how much I could have written, what I could be working on if I hadn’t been such a perfectionist.

Realizing this did help, but I had to keep myself from going back and doing it. It had become a habit and I have to break it.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket My new mantra is “leave the editing for the second draft.”

So less thinking about getting every word perfect and more getting the story out. Seeing the problem has helped, the only day I haven’t actually made the 1143 goal was the first day. I did just under 1100 that day. I’ve gotten more done on the shorter story Lisia’s Journey than I did on Primal Encounter, but I’ll be working on them both today.

If you’re part of the 70 day challenge don’t forget to check in on Wednesdays and Sundays at Alison’s blog and good luck.
